Quoting Twenge

Jean M. Twenge, a psychologist, has been researching generational differences for 25 years. In her Atlantic article “Have Smartphones Destroyed A Generation?” she focuses on the iGen generation of teens compared to previous generations such as the Millennials. When studying the generational differences she noticed in 2012 that there were drastic differences and shifts in teens behavior. Twenge observes, “Around 2012, I noticed abrupt shifts in teen behaviors and emotional states. The gentle slopes of the line graphs became steep mountains and sheer cliffs, and many of the distinctive characteristics if the Millennial generation began to disappear.” In short, how the iGen generation differs compared to Millennials is that iGen teens view the world and spend their time very differently.

I agree with Twenge’s observations in that they way I see the world and spend my time is astronomically different than my parents. My parents often partied more and went out whereas me and my friends try to stay home more. My parents also didn’t grow up with the internet and smartphones and our lives are surrounded by electronics.
